52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks (2021-03)
52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks is a series of weekly prompts to get you to think about an ancestor and share something about them. The weekly prompt is provided by www.amyjohnsoncrow.com. The prompt for the week of January 18 is Namesake. One of Amy's suggestions for this prompt is "Do you have an ancestor who was named for someone else?"
When I first thought of the prompt Namesake I looked for father/son namesakes. But upon looking at the tree, I decided that for Bagby Family Namesakes I'm writing about Isabelle "Lula" C. Burton Bagby and her oldest son, Burton S. Bagby. It is common that sons are named after their father or grandfather, but not as common that a son is given a mother's maiden name.
In all records as an adult, it appears that Isabelle went by the name "Lula" and not Isabelle, however, in the census records where she is with her parents, she is listed as Isabella. So it is a mystery how she became known to be Lula.
We don't have an exact marriage date of when Lula married John William Bagby but based on information in the 1900 US Census (and also the 1910 US Census) they were likely married in 1890. The data in the blue circle below indicates that they have been married for 10 years when the census was taken.
Burton was born on December 3, 1893, to Lula and John in Fluvanna, Virginia. He was their first son and second child.

Sadly, we don't know much more about Burton. In the 1900 US Census, he is not listed with the family and Lula indicates that she had 4 children and only 3 were living (indicated by the red circle below.)

And we, unfortunately, don't know when or how Burton died or where he may be buried. I have not been able to locate any other records or information about him.
Lula and John went on to have a total of 7 children Grace, Burton, Lizzie, Daisy, Nash, Saunders, and a seventh child that we don't know the name or the sex of. In the next US Census in 1910, Lula indicates that she had 7 children and only 5 were living. So the unknown child was born after the 1900 census and died before the 1910 census.
